The Friday Focus Break Out Day!!

At yesterday's (16th Jan 2026) Friday Focus there was a delightful presentation by pupils from St. Peter’s Catholic school who told us all about the work they did at the LSAGM on National Museum Takeover Day.

So, what was Takeover Day?

"On Friday 21st November there will be a national Take Over Day. Take Over Day is an initiative established by Kids in Museums and invites young people to learn about working in a museum or gallery, the theme this year is Careers. On the day, the Year 5 & 6 pupils from St Peter’s School will be visiting. In the morning, we will teach the pupils about the roles and responsibilities of the museum & gallery staff via talks and hands on activities. The pupils will also spend time in the Childish Things exhibition space and will practice their literacy skills by having a go at writing captions for the artworks on display. In the afternoon, we will be running an activity around camouflage, as next term their class topic will be ‘Conflict’".(LGAGM)

Flag members were invited to join in on the day and some of us went along to observe and to take part in rather a lot of cutting and sticking.

It was very enjoyable and the children seemed to have fun and were keen to find out more about the Leamington Camafleurs and about Leamington during the 2 World Wars.

Here is some of the work on display at the gallery yesterday.
